Fun Times Knitting Doll Hats

So, there have been a few changes since my last post.  In a nutshell, my employer retired and now I'm doing the same job for another, but only for 4 hours per day.  My pocketbook will be sad.  On the other hand, my afternoons are free.  Free to job hunt, sure, but also to knit, nap, and work on my micro-business, Nancy Hay Decorative Arts.

I have connected, mostly through sheer luck, with the doll collecting community in San Diego.  There is a need for accessories for the well-appointed dolls and I can fill it.  I've been making knitted, then felted, hats that are sized for the various types of dolls.  I've sold a few recently, as well as fascinator-style top hats and bowlers for grownups.  This could be a great niche market.

On Saturday I will be showing some doll hats at a doll show, in North Park (San Diego), the Bootiful Doll Show and Sale.  My friend, Karyn, is bringing some extra dolls to model hats for me.  Thanks, Karyn!  So tomorrow's afternoon at home will be taken up with putting hatbands, feathers, and charms on plain hats to prepare them for the Show.  And maybe a ribbon run.  If this goes well, there is a Ball-Jointed Doll show in December that I'll sign up for.

If I had to lose half my income, at least I have an avenue to make up for part of it.  I knitted another one during TV tonight, in brown Icelandic wool.  No time tonight to felt it and its brother, but first thing tomorrow afternoon.  I have a feeling about the brown ones.  Black seems to go over well, too.

Now that I have some free hours now, I look forward to more knitting, more blogging, and the occasional nap.

Later!
